NICL scam – FIA not allowed to search AKD’s house?

KARACHI - The high-ups of the authorities concerned are continuously interfering in the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) probing the National Insurance Corporation Limited (NICL) scam as some bitter facts have come to light. Recently, the FIA joint interrogation team was not permitted to search the house of an important personality of the business community as he is an in-law of Amin Qasim Dada, the main culprit of NICL scam.

"The FIA wanted a search warrant for the house of renowned businessman Aqeel Karim Dhedhi but the high-ups refused to provide the approval," well-placed sources informed Pakistan Today. The team was permitted to only record the statement of Dhedi, which was not enough for the investigation, they said. There might be more information but the investigation has been bounded by the high-ups, said sources.

"We also have the proof about Dada's visit to Israel," sources said, adding that he stayed for a long period in Jordan and got a visa for Israel. The FIA team has raided different locations in the city for the arrest of Dada while collecting some useful information. Meanwhile, a senior PML-Q leader has also been alleged of contacting members of the FIA investigation team and using pressure tactics to know the details of investigation. The passport of the prime accused in the NICL scam has been revoked.

FIA Sindh Director Moazam Ali Jah told Pakistan Today that red warrants for the three suspects have been issued. "We contacted the Interpol and it issued red warrants for three suspects including Dada," he said, adding that the suspects would be arrested soon. The records show that he came to Pakistan on July 10, 2010 and did not fly abroad again, meaning he is in Karachi, they said.

The sources also claimed that some reports suggest Dada has fled abroad via Afghanistan. The FIA has arrested two suspects Naveed Hussain Zaidi and Gardazy while Jawaid Syed, Khawaja Akbar and Khalid Anwar are out of the country and their red warrants have been issued.
